We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Project Estimator to join our team in the tree removal and vegetation management industry. This full-time position plays a key role in preparing cost estimates by analyzing proposals and requirements, managing bid packages, and planning job schedules. You will frequently travel to project sites to conduct evaluations. The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for vegetation management projects, focusing on utility and municipal work. This includes tasks such as tree trimming, brush clearing, hazard tree removal, right-of-way maintenance, and other vegetation control services. The role requires extensive travel (approximately 90%) to bid locations to perform site walks and work reviews, ensuring precise data collection for accurate project estimation. Collaboration with project managers, field crews, clients, and stakeholders is essential to ensure successful project bidding and execution.
Requirements
Essential Functions Develop detailed cost estimates based on project scope, site conditions, and client requirements. Evaluate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs to create comprehensive project bids. Perform quantity take-offs and ensure the accuracy of all estimates. Travel extensively to bid locations to assess vegetation conditions, accessibility, hazards, and environmental factors. Conduct on-site walks and work reviews to gather precise data, including tree types, density, and clearance standards. Compile estimates into formal proposals for client submission, adhering to deadlines. Ensure compliance with utility and municipal regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines. Clearly define project scope, deliverables, timelines, and exclusions. Coordinate with operations teams to ensure estimates align with field execution capabilities. Support project planning to facilitate a smooth transition from bid to execution. Stay informed on industry trends, vegetation management techniques, and regulatory updates. Monitor competitor pricing to maintain a competitive edge. Maintain detailed records of estimates, proposals, and client communications. Provide regular updates to management on bid performance and market conditions. Review and evaluate cost estimates Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects Prepare estimates and purchase orders in detail for all products Ensure timely completion of estimates Understand scope of work to bid and manage bid pricing from all vendors Prepare cost analysis Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors Determine and define project scope and objectives Predict resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner Prepare budget based on scope of work and resource requirements Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout the entire project execution Monitor progress and adjust as needed Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement Required
A valid driver's license is required. High school diploma required; Minimum 2-5 years of experience in vegetation management, utility work, or related fields. Estimation experience is preferred. Previous experience as an estimator or project manager in the construction, tree removal, or vegetation management industries. In-depth knowledge of cost estimation, project planning, and resource allocation. Knowledge of vegetation management practices, ANSI standards, and regional environmental regulations. Strong understanding of industry regulations, operational guidelines, and safety standards. Proficiency in estimating software, data analysis methods, and project management tools. Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills. Willingness to travel frequently to project sites. Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. Familiarity with tree species, growth patterns, and vegetation control methods. Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously. Willingness to travel for site visits and client meetings as needed. Preferred
ISA Certified Arborist or Utility Specialist certification is a plus. A degree in forestry, environmental science, or a related field is a plus.
