We're searching for a Surgical Technologist, someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will function as a member of the perioperative nursing team to perform direct and indirect perioperative nursing tasks for patients and assist the anesthesia team. The primary focus of this position is the scrub person and the assist circulator roles. In collaboration with a registered nurse, the Surgical Technologist serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one surgical service and a preceptor for new scrub personnel. Think you've got what it takes? Job Duties & Responsibilities Gathers appropriate instrumentation, supplies, equipment, and suture material needed for procedure per surgeon's preference card. Assists the circulating nurse in opening the room by damp-dusting surfaces, lights and furniture. Assists with positioning of patient on the OR bed, and in moving patients to and from the OR bed. Prepares the sterile field and arranges sterile instruments, supplies, equipment, and sutures on the back table prior to surgery. Prepares medications on the back table safely and accurately for delivery to surgeon per Operating Room policy and surgeon's needs. Maintains integrity and sterility of the sterile field throughout the procedure. Reports immediately to circulating nurse any breaks in aseptic technique. Possesses knowledge of the procedure and anticipates the surgeon's needs throughout the procedure. Provides instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment to the surgeon in an appropriate and timely fashion. Implements procedures that contribute to patient safety by performing sponge, needle, blade, and instrument counts per hospital policy, or as requested by the circulating nurse. Prepares specimens correctly and accurately. Prepares contaminated instrumentation for decontamination process by properly transferring and cleansing them per Operating Room policy at the end of each procedure. Assists circulating nurse in turnover of the room, including washing of beds, and overhead lights, removal of linen and trash, and mopping of floor (when housekeeper is not available.) Maintains and supports patient's rights to care, privacy and respect. Other duties as assigned from time to time. Skills & Requirements High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Minimum of two years surgical technologist experience preferred. NBSTSA Certification in Surgical Technology required (Unless grandfathered in prior to 7/2013, per Massachusetts State Law). BLS healthcare provider required within 6 months of hire.
