Job Summary Under the direction of pharmacy leadership, the pharmacy technician follows established policies and procedures to perform a variety of routine support tasks that are integral to the operation of the pharmacy department. Does this position require patient care? No. Essential functions include: assisting in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and medications in accordance with the laws and regulations; delivering and distributing medications to patient care areas; utilizing area-specific technology, including robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems; performing cycle counts as necessary; under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performing required pharmaceutical dosage calculations necessary to prepare extemporaneous dosage forms as applicable; preparing compounded sterile products using principles of aseptic technique, distributing and transporting controlled substances under the appropriate state of control, or maintaining code cart inventory; receiving and sorting shipment of medications and supplies; recommending drug related labs and interpreting results when appropriate; delivering and stocking pharmacy inventory; maintaining inventory in all pharmacy areas and automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) and charge stock orders, ADC shrinkage, and patient and clinic requisitions; assisting in the training of more junior staff; and providing information and triage phone calls to the appropriate individual within the pharmacy department. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and Credentials: Pharmacy Technician [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred. Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred. Experience: Hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program 2-3 years preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Shows knowledge of the pharmacology of drugs and legal aspects of dispensing. Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices.
