Overview

We are seeking a

Senior Designer

to join the Morrow Art Department. This is a creative role responsible for developing original and compelling cover designs across a wide range of hardcover and paperback titles, for our fiction and nonfiction imprints. The ideal candidate brings conceptual strength, strong typography and image-making skills, with a deep understanding of the publishing industry. You should feel equally confident working independently or collaborating closely with the Art Director and editorial teams.

Responsibilities

Design dynamic, market-driven book covers across all genres and imprints

Develop creative concepts that align with each book’s positioning and audience

Collaborate with the Art Director and editors throughout the design process

Source, commission, and manage illustrators, photographers, and other visual contributors

Prepare print-ready mechanicals and review/approve printer proofs

Stay informed on current design trends, typography, and the competitive publishing landscape

Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of professional design experience, preferably in book publishing or a related field

Strong portfolio showcasing conceptual thinking, sophisticated typography, and a refined design sensibility

Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills

Ability to present and discuss creative work clearly and professionally

The salary range for this position is $57,000-$70,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
