Summary:
The job of the custodian was established for the purpose of providing custodial services at assigned site(s); ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; and assisting in preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events.
Qualifications/Education: High school diploma or equivalent Understanding of chemical hazards Ability to work independently without supervision Must be able to read, write, and comprehend written and oral instruction Ability to work in all weather temperatures and lighting conditions Meet all job standards in a time sensitive manner Ability to meet quality and quantity standards in job duties Meet all District safety requirements Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
Clean assigned facilities and/or grounds which shall include but not limited to the following: sweep, dust, strip, mop, polish, wax, buff, and vacuum; clean snow and ice from sidewalks and entrances and clean debris Empty all inside and outside trash containers Assist with periodic or emergency classroom clean-up duties Open, close, and secure the building each school day Assist with moving, setting up, and storage of classroom equipment, furniture, and curriculum materials Perform summer maintenance General Responsibilities:
Respond to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing information, taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution Replenish classroom and restroom supplies to ensure adequate quantities for daily use Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with school district staff and community members Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Building Administration Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling Exposure to significant lifting Must work indoors and outdoors in a variety of temperatures Requires regular attendance and physical presence at the job
Terms of Employment:
Twelve-month position. 40-hour work week or as established by the Board. Schedules and shifts may be altered depending upon the critical nature or emergency circumstances of the job.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy concerning evaluation of classified personnel.
