GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Assist department personnel with the maintaining of district facilities and equipment. Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: Valid Texas driver's license High School Diploma, preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow verbal or written instructions Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures Ability to communicate effectively (verbally) Ability to operate district vehicles & machinery Ability to operate power and hand tools Ability to work independently General technology skills

Experience: One year experience in general building maintenance and or construction

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Work independently on general maintenance and construction repairs.

2. Assist skilled workers with construction, repair and maintenance of district facilities, including but not limited to remodeling work, repairing woodwork; replacing and installing flooring, replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, forming and pouring concrete, repairing and replacing fencing and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.

2. Inspect building exterior, interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.

3. Detect and report needed major repairs of building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.

4. Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by supervisor.

5. Move, install, assemble and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.

6. Hang pictures, mirrors blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers and other items as required.

7. Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.

8. Install ceiling and flooring materials.

9. Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures, including but not limited to scissor lifts, boom lifts, bobcat, back hoe, and fork lifts/construction fork lifts.

10. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

11. Will be punctual on the job and will perform all work in a professional, satisfactory manner.

12. Will make continuous efforts following district vision, values & goals for self-improvement.

13. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

EQUIPMENT USED: Power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, welder (gas and electric air), concrete mixer, district vehicles, trailers, lifts, fork-lift, medium machinery (bob-cat, trencher, etc.) etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Ability to communicate (verbally, written and electronically), understands verbal and written directions and works with minimal supervision. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to operate power and hand tools. Work outside and inside. Exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and odors. Exposed to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles. Chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke, etc.); work with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts and may work for long periods of time.
