Respiratory Therapist
Responsible for respiratory therapy duties including oxygen administration, application of ventilators, initiation, assessment of, and recommendations for respiratory care services including diagnostic studies under physician supervision. Entry-level technical position which typically requires technical education but little to no prior experience in an analytical or scientific method or operational process. Work is routine, directly follows defined practices, and is often performed with close supervision. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients, and families. Attend required training sessions. Self-Management - Follows all departmental policies and procedures. Respects patients rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission, applicable laws and regulations while providing for the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred, or discharged. Furnish data the will contribute to the assessment of patient needs, the organization's capability to provide the appropriate level of treatment while maintaining timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information. Develop knowledge and professional skills through professional literature and attendance at departmental meetings and in-services. Professional/Clinical - Prepare oxygen therapy equipment according to departmental policies. Perform capillary blood sampling under supervision of a licensed Therapist. Administer aerosolized medication via hand held nebulizer; perform airway clearance, breathing exercises and metered dose inhalations, tracheostomy care, ventilator care. Bills for services in a financially responsible manner. Sets up and maintains respiratory care equipment including oxygen masks, tracheostomy collars, T-pieces, face tents, nasal cannula. Collects discontinued equipment from patients are areas, cleans the equipment, calibrates the equipment and prepares the equipment for the next patient. Other duties and responsibilities may be considered pending successful observation and completion of accompanying competency in an appropriate clinical setting.
