DescriptionThe Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine invites applications for a highly motivated Clinical Pathologist with interest or experience in a subspeciality of Clinical Pathology to join the faculty of the Division of Laboratory Medicine and serve as the CLIA Medical Director of the Nashville Campus hospital laboratories.Acting under the Service Medical Director of Core Laboratories and Division Director of Laboratory Medicine, the successful candidate will serve as Medical Director of the VUMC Nashville Campus laboratories including the hospital core laboratory, emergency department laboratory and hospital-based satellite laboratories.Located in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt University Medical Center is one of the nation's leading research and teaching institutions. VUMC is experiencing expansion in many areas and includes a top 20 NCI-designated cancer center, multifaceted solid organ and stem cell transplant programs, and internationally recognized research endeavors in immunology and inflammation, infectious diseases, vaccine development, pharmacology, genomics, and bioinformatics. Nashville is a growing and vibrant cosmopolitan area with diverse entertainment and cultural opportunities, excellent schools, and ready access to outdoor activities.QualificationsInterested applicants must have a medical degree (M.D. or D.O) and be board-certified in Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology with 2 - 5 years of experience directing a clinical laboratory. The successful candidate's primary duties will be overseeing the clinical and regulatory aspects of clinical chemistry, coagulation, hematology and urinalysis testing primarily performed on patients treated at the Vanderbilt University Hospital and Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Experience with laboratory automation and informatics, especially Epic Beaker, is desired, but not required. The candidate will work closely with the other laboratory medicine faculty and laboratory operations leadership in the administration, oversight and quality activities within the services. They will interact extensively with clinicians and hospital leaders with regard to clinical needs and laboratory services. Additional responsibilities will include rotating on call as well as teaching and mentoring pathology residents and fellows and medical students, and participation in clinical or translational research. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of academic achievement through independent or collaborative research and scholarly publications and have an interest in pursuing academic activities. Experience with clinical / translational research and contribution to national professional committees is beneficial. This is a non-tenure track position.
