About Us

Stern Exteriors is a full-service roofing and gutter contractor serving North and Central New Jersey, specializing in gutter system design, gutter and guard installation, fascia and soffit repair, and now expanding our services to include roofing, siding, and exterior carpentry. Known for our transparency, quality workmanship, and responsive service, we are seeking a hands-on Operations Manager to help lead the next stage of our growth.

Role Summary

This is a field-forward, leadership-level role for someone with deep construction experience—especially in roofing, gutters, siding, and exterior work. The ideal candidate can manage teams, coordinate material and labor logistics, ensure job quality, interface confidently with customers, and drive operational excellence across the company.

This role combines team leadership, customer-facing confidence, field execution, and back-office coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Operations

Plan, assign, and coordinate labor and material resources across multiple concurrent projects

Oversee job sites (especially larger or more complex ones) for safety, quality control, and adherence to company standards

Conduct spot checks and final walkthroughs to ensure jobs meet specifications

Maintain a strong presence in the field—this is not a desk-only position

Team Management

Lead and motivate a team of 7+ field technicians

Set clear expectations, ensure accountability, and provide ongoing feedback and guidance

Bridge the communication gap between field crews and office staff

Uphold a culture of discipline, follow-through, and attention to detail

Customer Engagement & Communication

Interface directly with homeowners and commercial clients

Provide clear, confident guidance and reassurance during job planning and execution

Represent the company with professionalism and trustworthiness on every site visit or call

Checklist Compliance & Process Leadership

Implement and enforce the company’s operational checklists for installations, repairs, quality control, and job closeout

Train teams to use checklists consistently and treat them as a non-negotiable part of operations

Track progress and completion with an obsession for the details

Business Development (Preferred)

Leverage existing relationships to originate new business opportunities

Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities during project scoping or field visits

Qualifications

5+ years experience in construction, with specific exposure to roofing, gutter work, siding, fascia/soffit repair, or exterior carpentry

Strong project management and field coordination background

Demonstrated experience leading teams of 5+ workers

Excellent interpersonal skills; can communicate effectively with both field crews and administrative staff

Customer service mindset, with the ability to earn trust and diffuse concerns

Highly organized and process-driven; uncompromising on completion and quality

Military background is highly valued for its emphasis on structure, accountability, and checklist culture

Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
