The Patient Account Representative coordinates all patient and insurance billings accounts for their assigned clinic. The Patient Account Representative registers new patients, verifies and monitors all patient accounts prior to the patient seeing the doctor; verifies all insurance information; counsels patients about their accounts and handles all patient complaints regarding the account; sets up any necessary pay arrangements. While serving as a team member, demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the staff, patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Job Responsibilities:Log, deposit, distribute, enter and reconcile all daily deposits in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures and internal controls.Post all payments to patient and customer accounts, including payments from insurance carriers, government agencies and their fiscal intermediaries, self-insured patients and lawyers. Initiate refund requests for all private account that have credit balances, following clinic policies and procedures.Generate bank deposit slips and make daily insurance deposits to bank. Post unidentifiable payments to pre-determined accounts. Enter and post charges into billing system. Scan documents. Produce refund if the same day visit Prepare mailings such as refunds and collections letter.Communicate questions or concerns for prompt resolution.Prioritize work received and complete in a timely manner.Assist other office personnel in the performance of their duties as assigned and as workload permits.Communicate with payers on technical remittance errors via phone/fax.Work as a team member within their clinic and all other departments.Document work processes as requiredContact patients regarding outstanding balances.Establish payment plans to help patients manage payment of billsSend request for rebills to the Billing ManagerCan look at a patients account and tell when adjustments need to be madeRespond to patient billing and statement inquiriesVerify insurance informationMaintain patient's privacy and confidentiality at all timesUnderstand the process of working Accounts Receivable Verify the accuracy of insurance information on all patients Check the website for patient eligibility status Document all correspondence in the Practice Management System Verify collection of payment at the time of serviceVerify patient account balances before collections are mailed Responds to emails in a timely manner Demonstrate the ability to accept and convey constructive criticismHandle all business in a confidential manner Adhere to the organizations policy and procedures Demonstrate an ability to work as a member of the PAR team Demonstrate positive personal attributes such as honesty, integrity and professionalism in all aspects of the job Check voicemail dailyReturn missed calls in a timely mannerInvestigate collection letters which are returned with insufficient addressesMaintains prompt and regular attendanceVerify timecard at the end of each pay periodPerforms related work, as assignedJob Requirements:High school diploma or GED. Must have previous experience in Medical Office or related field.Medical insurance knowledge preferredExcellent computer skills requiredBilingual (Spanish) preferredAbility to communicate in English and excellent verbal and written communication skills Organizational and planning skills to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and take initiative Detail-oriented Works independently with little direct supervision Interacts with difficult individuals while maintaining composure Able to work cooperatively as a member of a team Able to work under stress in a fast-paced environment Physical and Other Requirements:Must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen and physical assessment. Must be willing to do local and out-of-state travel.Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 lbs. routinely.
