Product Designer

to add fresh ideas and energy to our New Product Development team.

The Product Designer supports NPD team and performs the design process by creating new 3D models, design concepts, prototypes, component parts and assemblies. Revise existing 3D models and creation of detail drawings, gauge and fixtures to deliver new products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Product Designer for new or existing product components. Solid understanding of design tools and methods.

Utilizes the CAD system to create new 3-D free form or complex models and design concepts to refined parts for production.

Collaborates with manufacturing and QA to design parts for tooling, assembly and quality.

Utilizes drafting practices and standards for part drawing creation.

Creates, evaluates functional prototypes for design reviews and analysis.

Revise existing product component or assembly design for continuous improvement upgrades.

Initiates design and drawing revisions, ECN's and completes implementation of changes.

Troubleshooting new product manufacturing issues by working with production team to resolve design and assembly problems.

Collaborates with manufacturing and quality for fixture and inspection gauge concept development. Provides support for new product fixtures and gauges launched in production.

Utilizes part inspection tools like micrometers, calipers, comparators and other measuring equipment.

Assigns part tolerances and knowledge of tolerance stack-up for component assembly.

Provide training and mentoring new staff.

Participates in market research as needed and applies end-user feedback to designs.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Serve as the technical product designer function on product development teams.

Responsible for complex 3-D CAD models such as free form housings and assemblies and component designs.

Responsible for part manufacturability for tooling and assembly.

Provide support to build prototypes and oversee performance evaluation tests.

Utilizes understanding of the manufacturing process, department functions and assembly techniques in designing of parts/assemblies and in making revisions.

Provide troubleshooting skills of components and products in manufacturing

Development and support of fixtures and gauges required to launch new products.

Completion of design change work. ECN's through implementation into production.

Creation of component detail drawings.

Constructs and builds prototypes.

Performs other duties assigned by manager.

Knowledgeable of approval agency requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience

Must be skilled in design, 3D design and construction of parts/models

Able to troubleshoot design problems.

Good organizational skills, detail oriented and good communication skills.

Proficiency in operating CAD systems required

Siemens NX preferred
