About the role

Teller County's Clerk & Recorder located in Cripple Creek, CO is seeking a full time Deputy Clerk & Recorder to provide support in recording, elections and motor vehicle transactions and provides exceptional customer service under general supervision.

What You'll Do:

Motor Vehicle Department :

(1) Process all phases of motor vehicle transactions including title processing, in person, phone and online registration renewals and processing of special mobile equipment.

(2) Balance daily receipts, assist in preparing deposits and prepare daily figures.

(3) Prepare end of day and end of month closing on General Accounting Program.

(4) Maintain inventories of equipment and assist with motor vehicle inventory.

Elections Department :

(1) Obtain the state required certification for elections within 6 months.

(2) Maintain inventories of election equipment and order office supplies.

(3) Assist with preparations and conducts of elections. Daily data entry, election judges scheduling and training, and set up vote center. Work additional overtime hours during an active election.

Recording Department :

(1) Detail oriented data entry for property transactions.

(2) Assist public with researching recorded documents.

(3) Balance daily receipts, assist in preparing deposits, and prepare daily figures.

(4) Issue and examine marriage licenses.

(5) Receive land survey and plat maps and provide copies of such maps and surveys to the public.

(6) Assist Assessor's office with scheduling Board of Equalization hearings.

All Departments :

(1) Provide backup assistance to office staff as needed to include working at the motor vehicle annex office in Woodland Park.

(2) Perform a variety of clerical tasks including information collection, typing, photocopying, scanning, filing, mail collections and distribution, and assist public with research.

(3) Pass a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) annually.

(4) Occasionally travel to attend conferences, possibly overnight.

Requirements

Skills/Experience We're Looking For:

Knowledge of: data entry techniques; office procedures and practices; office machines and equipment including word processors, adding machines, scanners, plotter and photocopiers; Microsoft Office software or similar such as Word and Excel; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skilled in: attention to detail; answering high volume of phone calls; organizational and mathematical skills.

Ability to: establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public; successfully complete a Colorado Bureau of Investigations background check annually.

Experience/Education: High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years clerical experience; any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to communicate effectively by means of speaking, hearing, and seeing.

Physical Effort/Dexterity: This position requires light physical exertion and the normal range of motion and dexterity; ability to lift and carry 30 pounds; ability to use a variety of office equipment; ability to sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to drive a motor vehicle.

Environmental Factors: This position works in an office setting with occasional local travel.

Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week; additional hours may be required during an election cycle and may include evenings and weekends.

License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.
