General Summary/Responsibilities:STATUS: PRN/ SupportDepartment: PharmacyShifts: 700am-330pm 900am-530pm, 100pm-930pm, 300pm-1130pmFacility: Atrium Medical CenterA certified pharmacy technician, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, engage in the following activities to the extent that the activities do not require the exercise of professional judgment:1. Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile2. Preparing and affixing labels3. Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory4. Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers5. Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist6. Non-sterile drug compounding following the completion of site-specific training7. Sterile drug compounding following the completion of a site-specific training8. Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash cartsEssential Duties & Functions:•Prepare medication doses prior to a pharmacist's review & dispensing•Perform non-sterile and sterile medication compounding after required training•Restock medications in automated dispensing cabinets•Delivery of medications to patient care areas•Monitor drug inventory levels to ensure a continuous supply of medications without stockpiling supplies•Troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy•Must be familiar with pharmacy software•Must use aseptic technique, wear appropriate attire, and follow standards in aseptic compounding•Must maintain clean and safe working environmentOther Duties & Functions:•Other duties as assignedQualificationEducationMinimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GEDPreferred educational qualifications: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training programLicensure/Certification/RegistrationCertified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a "Certified Pharmacy Technician" or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.ExperienceMinimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experiencePrior job title or occupational experience: N/APrior specific functional responsibilities: N/lAPreferred experience: Prior hospital, long-term care or retail experience preferredOther experience requirements: N/AKnowledge/Skills•Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills•Able to read and write printed material in English•Proficiency with computer keyboard operations•Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred•Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage•Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy. Must be familiar with pharmacy software•Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member•Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
