Job DescriptionAs a pharmacy technician II, in a hospital setting, provides specialized services surrounding the use, monitoring, and handling of medical drugs, including investigational new drugs that require more detailed processes to ensure safe and appropriate use. Accurately follows workflow procedures, including prescription processing, medication preparation, and distribution to patients. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and according to professional standards and practices.ResponsibilitiesKnowledge of drug names, medical terminology, and pharmaceutical calculations.Ability to operate and care for automated dispensing devices and equipmentMeticulous attention to detail; exhibits accuracy and thoroughness while monitoring own work for quality.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to work in situations involving uncertainty and rapid change.A solid customer service acumen to effectively work with both internal and external customers and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.Proficient computer skills.Requires critical thinking skills with the ability to implement solutionsStrong organizational skills, including staying focused on assigned tasks and using time and resources effectively and efficiently to achieve job expectationsQualificationsPerform all duties of Pharmacy Tech IPerform a variety of clinical functions in support of the clinical pharmacist (e.g., patient interviews, medication safety and adherence initiatives, patient follow-up calls, and collection of clinical data for the pharmacist).Efficient operation and ability to troubleshoot specialty machinery, equipment, devices or software as necessary in performing job functions (e.g., carousels, automated dispensing cabinets, compounders, drug delivery devices, retail pharmacy systems).Manage individual responsibilities while being able to shift to help team members and contribute to broader team goals with minimum supervision.Prepare IV solutions using an aseptic technique and/or compound non-sterile medications at select locations.Assist with training of new employees and students, educating them in job-specific functions.Restock automatic dispensing cabinets and anesthesia workstations as needed.Answer and screen telephone calls and direct calls to appropriate personnel when neededHandle medications in accordance with department, regulatory, and legal requirements (e.g., medication records, pulling outdated/unusable medications).Collaborates with immediate pharmacy team, insurance companies, and customers alike to resolve issues, ensure accuracy, and deliver a timely resolution of any medication or insurance-related concern.Efficient operation and basic level of technical support for specialty machinery, equipment, devices or software necessary in performing job functions (e.g., carousels, automated dispensing cabinets, compounders, drug delivery devices, retail pharmacy systems).Complete and document all assigned safety and quality activities in compliance with department procedures.Prepare and/or compound non-sterile medications at select locations.Manage individual responsibilities while supporting team members and contributing to broader team goals.Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
