Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the manager of Candler Prescription Center, and the supervision of the specialty pharmacist, this position is responsible for performing all the functions of a Pharmacy Technician I, II, and III as well as providing operational support for the specialty pharmacy. Competency in data analysis, critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and handling hazardous materials is required. An understanding and compliance of standards set by the specialty pharmacy's accrediting bodies is required. Tech IV may be asked to assist in the supervision of technical and support staff in any area of the specialty/retail pharmacy along with maintaining optimal efficiency. Responsibilities include completing prior authorizations on behalf of health system providers and coordinating payment of specialty medications from payers, drug manufacturers, and/or charitable foundations. Provides premier customer service to patients and providers including timely updates on the status of orders. Prepares temperature-sensitive medications for shipment via appropriate courier. Runs weekly and monthly reports and can work from spreadsheets. Ensures strict compliance with 340B program. Organizes performance improvement activities, performs PI data collection, and reports to specialty pharmacy PI committee quarterly. Pharmacy Tech IV may be assigned other duties not listed above from the Director of Pharmacy, Candler Prescription Center Manager, and on-duty pharmacist(s).

Education High School Diploma - Preferred Experience

3-5 Years Pharmacy experience - Required License & Certification

Pharmacy Technician -Georgia Registry - Required National Pharmacy Technician Certificate (or equivalent) - Required

Core Job Functions Enters complex patient data correctly, including insurance and allergies, prior to pharmacist verification. Medications are dispensed and shipped according to established procedure and state/federal regulations. Ensures courtesy and respect and provides premier customer service to patients, office staff and prescribers, in person or by telephone. Performs benefits investigation and completes prior authorization for specialty medications on behalf of health system physicians. Collaborates with insurance, drug manufacturers, and charitable foundations to coordinate payment for specialty medications. Participates in the Specialty Pharmacy's Performance Improvement Committee and leads PI activities throughout the year. Reports activity findings to PI Committee quarterly. Ensures pharmacy maintains strict adherence to a multitude of accreditation standards, including but not limited to: prescription accuracy, phone metrics, patient and prescriber survey scores, complaint management, turnaround time, and distribution (shipping) accuracy. Assists Pharmacy Manager, Business Manager and other appropriate pharmacy staff in training new co-workers and assuring their continued competence and serves as a role model for technical staff. Ensures compliance to all policies and procedures around medication management and patient care, including HIPAA compliance.
