We are seeking a Cardiac Sonographer to join our large, academically focused, and team-oriented echo lab at Duke University Hospital. As a member of our team, you'll perform advanced cardiovascular imaging across ambulatory and inpatient settingsincluding critical care units and procedural spacesand contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of some of the most complex heart conditions in the region. You'll gain hands-on experience with heart transplant patients, adult congenital heart disease, left ventricular assist devices, ECMO, Impella, TAVR, TEER, and even total artificial hearts, while learning from and collaborating with nationally recognized cardiovascular experts. Our structured 3-month onboarding program includes a dedicated preceptor and tailored clinical pathways, designed to prepare you for success and early advancement opportunities within our three-tiered sonographer career ladder. Job Duties and Responsibilities
Perform a variety of echocardiographic procedures, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE), Stress Echos, and strain imaging in both routine and emergency settings. Deliver services across ambulatory clinics, inpatient floors, ICU, and procedural areas. Evaluate pathology following current ASE, ACC, and lab-specific guidelines. Analyze patient medical records to obtain history and inform tailored imaging. Operate and maintain advanced ultrasound equipment, report malfunctions, and perform preventive maintenance. Prepare preliminary reports and compare with previous studies to assist interpretation by cardiologists. Participate in quality improvement activities and IAC-Echo reaccreditation processes. Educate and mentor students, nurses, fellows, and new staff as needed. Attend required staff meetings and pursue ongoing professional development and continuing education. Job Eligibility Requirements
Education Graduate or completion of program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification or currently holds required registry or certification. Experience Level I: New graduates welcome (must obtain ARDMS or CCI certification within 12 months of hire). Level II: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer. Level III: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer. Licensure and Certification ARDMS or CCI certification in Adult Echocardiography (required or obtained within 12 months).
