Title: Lead Custodian Work day: 6 am - 2:30 pm Supervisor: Custodial Supervisor and/or DesigneeTerms: 52 week Hourly Rate: $18.78 per hour

JOB GOAL:

Is to provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work, learn, play and develop. The Supervisor of Maintenance and Custodians is available to instruct the head custodian on mechanical aspects of the building and will periodically hold or make arrangements for in-service training. Head custodians should feel free to call upon the above mentioned supervisor for additional information or in a period of an emergency situation. The position of head custodian requires specific knowledge and abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: The lead custodian reports to the building principal and Supervisor of Maintenance /Custodians. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to work with and direct the custodial staff in their assigned building. Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and care of school. Knowledge of mechanical equipment, its purpose, care, adjustment, and condition of malfunction. Knowledge of all utility services within the building, including electrical, water, and heating. Knowledge of valves, and critical shut-off points in case of breakdowns or emergencies. Ability to work from a scaffold/lift when applicable.

Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisor of Custodians/Director of Facilities. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The lead custodian will be working the day shift. Lead custodians will be required to punch the time clock upon assuming these responsibilities and when leaving the building. The work and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Supervise the custodial staff within the building. This includes training of new staff by providing adequate instruction as well as judging their effectiveness. The Supervisor of Custodians is also available to share in the training of new employees. Responsible in conjunction with the supervisor will divide the workload among the persons under their supervision and check to see that the work is being performed satisfactorily. Lay out the cleaning schedule for summer and other vacation periods in conjunction with the supervisor. Responsible for receiving all deliveries made to the building both instructional and non-instructional. Responsible for opening the building, checking inside and outside lights, checking all rooms for heat and broken windows, and making sure that blowers and unit ventilators are operating, and do such other things as are necessary so the school may be ready for operation by the time the teaching staff arrives. Available to assist teachers in emergency clean-ups, moving furniture and equipment, distribution of supplies, and such other non-scheduled needs as will occur from time to time in that building. Make necessary arrangements for custodial care of the building when the building is in use after school hours by school personnel or outside groups, subject to the building calendar. Make maintenance recommendations to the building principal on work to be done by central maintenance which the custodial staff is unqualified to do. Responsible for the exterior as well as the interior of the building. Pick up rubbish on the parking lot and grounds. Keep that part of the lawn cut between the building and the public sidewalks except where other arrangements are made as in the case of the middle school and high school. During the winter months he/she will be responsible for snow removal from all walks including entrances and public sidewalks only if proper snow removal equipment is provided. Responsible for maintaining trees, shrubs, flowers, in an attractive manner. Report to the principal on general conditions of the building needs. Fill out and send inventory sheets and other requested reports to the maintenance office. Order all maintenance and custodial supplies through the supervisor. Test and monitor cleanliness of the pool. Monitor the appropriate pH/chlorine levels. The lead custodian shall be familiar with the operation, maintenance, and all mechanical parts of the building. Shall know all safety devices, shut-offs, emergency equipment, and other operation of the building related to safety, health, and cleanliness.
