Overview

NeighborWorks® Umpqua is seeking a skilled and creative Grant Writer to help secure funding that advances our mission and strengthens our impact in rural communities. This position researches funding opportunities, develops high-quality proposals, and works closely with leadership and program staff to ensure applications align with organizational goals and funder priorities. The Grant Writer also contributes to reporting, storytelling, and communications that highlight NWU’s work and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Research and identify funding opportunities from public, private, and philanthropic sources that align with NWU’s mission and programs.

Draft high-quality letters of intent, grant applications, and narrative attachments tailored to specific funders.

Collaborate with program directors to develop program-specific proposals and general operating grants.

Partner with the Grant Administrator and Finance to align proposal budgets and narratives with funding guidelines.

Collect and incorporate program data, impact measures, and success stories into proposals.

Maintain a proposal calendar, tracking submission deadlines and required follow-up actions.

Develop and maintain proposal templates, sample language, and content libraries to streamline future submissions.

Support funder stewardship by contributing to follow-up communications, reports, and recognition materials.

Minimum Qualifications

3–5 years of experience writing successful grant proposals, preferably in a nonprofit or community-based setting.

Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.

Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CRM or grant tracking systems preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with housing, financial empowerment, or rural community development sectors.

Knowledge of federal and state grant programs.

Familiarity with storytelling frameworks for funders, outcomes-based narratives, or impact measurement.

Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
