Job Purpose:
The Custodian plays a critical role in supporting the health, safety, and overall experience of all LC users. This position is responsible for ensuring that LC's diverse spaces-including learning environments, restrooms, interior and exterior common areas, and event facilities-are consistently clean, well-maintained, and welcoming. The Custodian helps uphold the integrity of the center and its mission by fostering an environment that supports safety, well-being, and joyful learning.
Essential Responsibilities: Perform daily and routine cleaning of floors (vacuuming, sweeping, damp mopping, scrubbing). Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, drinking fountains, and shared spaces. Dust surfaces, including high and low areas, HVAC vents, and lighting fixtures. Clean windows, glass doors, and entryways to maintain clear visibility and appearance. Spot-clean walls, doors, and trims as needed. Empty, clean, and sanitize trash and recycling receptacles regularly. Refill restroom and cleaning supplies and report inventory needs. Maintain exterior areas, including sweeping entryways and cleaning mats. Provide custodial support for events (setup, takedown, cleaning before/after). Submit and track maintenance requests; perform minor repairs when within scope. Approve and maintain custodial logs, checklists, and incident reports. Ensure adequate stock of custodial supplies to include paper good, toiletries, and chemicals Communicate and coordinate with LC staff, external partners, and custodial contractors to resolve issues. Ensure all work adheres to health, safety, and sanitation standards. Other Duties:
Provide transportation support for staff, youth, and families as needed for official business. Participate in professional development, training, and team-building initiatives. Support broader Trust and LC efforts by contributing to cross-functional projects and new initiatives. Take on special custodial and facility-related projects as assigned. Be available for flexible scheduling to support events and strategic needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as assigned by Facilities Maintenance Manager or Director of Facilities Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid Hawai'i driver's license and clean driving record. 1-2 years of previous experience in custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance preferred. Familiarity with custodial safety protocols, tools, and equipment. Experience operating 2-way radios and basic facility communication systems. Comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, and apps used for task tracking and reporting. Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills. Experience working with youth or in youth-centered environments preferred. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and perform physical labor for extended periods. Lili'uokalani Center (LC):
Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new Lili'uokalani Center will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT's signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy.
