The Assistant Estimator is responsible for providing support to manage the estimating process from beginning to end. This position will help produce comprehensive bid estimates for commercial construction projects. In this role, you will build upon your construction cost estimating techniques and knowledge in quantity takeoffs, as you assist the team in completing the entire bid from the beginning to the completion of the tender.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating and Tender Documentation:
Assist the team in producing accurate estimates of material and labor costs for the low voltage elements of the project.
Help prepare and send out accurate low voltage estimates and tender documentation.
Maintain all quotes received for low voltage material and labor costs.
Evaluate technical requirements and estimating costs to determine prices and margins of all low voltage equipment.
Provide prepared estimates/quotations to potential customers, ensuring both the customer and business needs are met.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with Estimators, Branch Manager, Subcontractors, Engineers, and Development Managers during the estimating/tender process, building stable working relationships.
Oversee documents for bid opportunities and liaise with potential clients.
Review quotes and estimates with Estimators, Branch Manager, and Pre-Construction Manager to prepare recommendations for resolution of any project risks.
Software Utilization and Project Review:
Utilize estimating software such as Accubid and online bid portals for final submissions.
Review and understand all project plans, requirements, and specifications.
Qualifications:
Experience in estimating, preferably within the electrical/ low voltage industry.
Proficiency in using estimating software such as Accubid.
Strong understanding of project plans, requirements, and specifications.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proactive approach to identifying and resolving project risks.
Work Environment: This job mainly operates in an office setting using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
