Full-TimeJOB SUMMARY Provide technical and scientific oversight in the clinical laboratory, assuring reliable, accurate diagnostic test results expeditiously delivery to practitioners.SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action.Verifies and calls critical results to physicians or nurses immediately and according to lab policy.Reviews results for clerical accuracy prior to completing.Supervises and assigns proficiency testing within assigned areas. Responsible for reviewing and submitting proficiency results to the appropriate proficiency testing service.Verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system.Supervise the quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and monitoring the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the testing process from the initial receipt of the specimen, through sample analysis and reporting of test results.Resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.Other duties as assigned by the lab director.Must be able to adapt to changes in environment with respect to scope of service provided and level of supervision required.Contributes to the general lab functions and institutional needs.Answers phone calls - record request for blood collection, answers general questions concerning test orders & collection; takes messages and routes calls.Uses at least 2 patient identifiers on each patient encounter.Exhibits concern for the patient's comfort and safety.Explains procedures/process before obtaining specimens.Offers additional assistance-seeks to ensure patient satisfaction before concluding encounter.BASIC SKILLS Basic computer knowledge and ability to touch type.Ability to discern color.Experience with lab information systems or the willingness to learn.Ability to work on several projects or committee if there is a desireAbility to utilize hands on knowledge from theoryEDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in school education or subsequent training.Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Physical, or Biological ScienceOrAssociates degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Physical, or Biological ScienceCertification as MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), or equivalentOrCertification as MLT (ASCP) or equivalentAt least three (3) years of experience in high complexity testing within a general laboratory or specialized field.LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writingAdditional languages preferredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to spend long periods of time on feetMust be able to life 50 pounds.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position without compromising patient care Equal Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
