We aspire to the Five Rights of Laboratory Testing: performing the right test on the right patient at the right time for the right indicators leading to the right diagnostic decision. The entry level Technologist in the Blood Bank's Clinical Laboratory is responsible for performing, evaluating, and reporting of technical laboratory testing on patient specimens for use in the transfusion of blood products. Follows established procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with professional standards of practice. Shift- 10PM-6:30AM - 3 Days per week, weekends included - Blood Bank experience highly preferred. Responsibilities:
Issues blood products upon request by performing an accurate clerical check of patient and donor information by cross-referencing requests with Blood Bank data according to standard operating procedure. Reports test results in a timely manner according to established laboratory protocols. Processes and labels blood components including, aliquoting, washing red cells, irradiating, thawing frozen products and pooling according to standard operating procedures. Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures. Manages resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments, and equipment. Detects, evaluates and reports suspected complications experienced by transfusion recipients. Completes Transfusion Reaction Investigation thoroughly and accurately, before submitting for supervisory and medical director review. Performs and maintains competency in the technical and related work of the Blood Bank Laboratory. Demonstrates knowledge of Safety in Blood Banking including biological, chemical and radiation safety. Accessions patient specimens for tests and blood product orders. Performs, but not limited to, pre-transfusion testing such as ABO/Rh, antibody screening, antibody identification, DAT and crossmatch. Performs other immunohematology tests as requested according to standard operating procedure. Competencies:
