Our client, a highly regarded nonprofit academic institution, is seeking an experienced
Director of Human Resources
to lead HR strategy and operations across its campus. This hands-on leadership role partners with senior executives, faculty, staff, and union representatives to create and maintain a thriving, compliant, and mission-driven work environment. Supervises a team of two. The successful candidate will bring a proven track record in academic settings, labor relations/union negotiations, and Title IX compliance, with the ability to balance strategic planning and day-to-day HR management. Key Responsibilities: Oversee all aspects of HR operations, including policy development, compliance, benefits administration, and employee lifecycle management. Lead recruitment and onboarding efforts in partnership with hiring managers to attract and retain top talent. Serve as the primary contact for employee relations, guiding progressive discipline, conflict resolution, and performance management. Partner with leadership on union contract negotiations, grievance resolution, and arbitration matters. Ensure institutional compliance with Title IX by serving as the Title IX Coordinator and other federal/state employment laws and regulations. Direct training and professional development initiatives, including faculty and staff orientation programs. Collaborate on campus safety programs and ensure related protocols are implemented effectively. What You Will Bring: Bachelor’s degree required; HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred. 7–10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 2–5 years in a unionized environment. Background in academia or nonprofit organizations strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with Title IX compliance and investigations. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills. Ability to navigate complex employee relations matters with discretion and fairness. Why Join?
