POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Associate VP of Communication, the Communications Director will lead, coordinate and manage all communications supporting YMCA branches as assigned. The position will provide direct oversight and daily management of all digital and new media, all membership and program communications, and all facility signage. This position is based out of the YMCA of the Triangle’s Association Resource Center.

The Communications Director is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. Promotes and protects the Y brand; provides Y brand leadership to all branch staff; ensures that all branch staff and vendors follow Y brand standards and YMCA of the Triangle marketing and communications standards; represents the voice and brand of the YMCA to the public; follows all operational protocols. Develops and implements communications for branch members, participants, volunteers, staff and the assigned branch service areas. Leads daily management and monitoring (including nights and weekends, as necessary) of all branch digital media, including branch web pages, social media, email marketing, mobile apps, digital signage and other emerging media. Supports internal branch communications material needs; responsibilities include creating, editing and/or proofing all branch written, digital content. Includes layout of print materials using Y brand templates. Responsible for effective content and timely, accurate delivery of all materials. In conjunction with the Association Marketing & Communications department, oversees internal branch photography and video content. Supports Association strategic communications and marketing plans. Participates in the Association marketing and communications project management team meetings to assist with strategic planning for branch and Association communications. In all digital media, ensures branch staff comply with the YMCA of the Triangle Social Media Policy, Association communication strategies and Y Branding. Listens and responds appropriately to all online conversations regarding the branch. Directs and posts social media content created by other branch staff to align branch and Association efforts, driving engagement, and reflecting the YMCA Voice. Works outside standard business hours, weeknights, and occasional weekends. Manages and coordinates all branch signage and communications for the branch facility, campus and offsite Y program locations in consultation with the Association Marketing & Communications Department and in compliance with Association and YMCA Brand standards. Ensures all branch marketing and communications materials associated with the YMCA of the Triangle’s strategic partners follow Y standards and comply with contractual agreements. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by branch leadership and/or Marketing and Communications department. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field and/or 2 - 3 years of expertise and experience in communications, with a strong understanding of public relations. Understanding of, and experience in website and social medial content platforms and management. Experience in interviewing and writing feature stories, writing letters and developing professional communications that are relevant to a diverse constituency. Superior written and verbal communication skills. Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office applications and the knowledge in or ability to learn other software and web-based content management systems are critical. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable design and video platforms; comfort with basic graphic and video editing is a plus. Experience in email communications that deliver organizational messaging and program promotions. Demonstrated program management skills with an ability to prioritize and the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. High level of initiative, professionalism, judgment, a positive attitude and must enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Multi-lingual desired, but not required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must have valid driver’s license and the ability to drive. Local travel including weeknight and weekend will be necessary. The YMCA of the Triangle requires employees to comply with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question.
