Boies Schiller Flexner LLP is seeking paralegals for the International Private Client ("IPC") Practice who are responsible for assisting lawyers in various types of litigation and for aiding in the preparation of legal documents, research and compilation of data from various legal references as well as the maintenance of case files and meeting minutes.
This position can be held in either our Washington, DC or Miami, FL office. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Gather, organize, summarize and index documents for various sources for upcoming, pending and potential litigation Draft correspondence, discovery requests and responses and other related documents as necessary and assigned Prepare and maintain trial notebooks and documents to be used at hearings and proceedings Maintain all initial filings of legal records, briefs and correspondence for the assigned cases Research law sources by identifying applicable statues, judicial decisions, and codes Compose legal abstracts by summarizing depositions, arbitrations, hearings, trials, and other transcripts SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES: May act as an official Notary Public for the Firm. May perform cite checking and/or bluebooking as assigned. Provides various administrative support duties for the attorneys. Works on special projects and project teams for the Firm as assigned. Contributes to team effort to accomplish related results as needed. Other duties that may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with a high degree of competence. Strong critical thinking, writing, and organizational skills are required. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for interactions with all levels of Firm personnel, clients, and vendors. The successful IPC paralegal is detail-oriented and self-motivating. Strong research skills are required, which includes open source and legal research. Position requires strong client service orientation, excellent communication, and decision-making skills. Position requires the ability to work independently and as a team player across multiple case teams. The ability to manage deadlines and understand fact patterns across multiple cases in a fast-paced environment is essential to succeed in this role. Cultural competency, i.e. the ability to interact effectively with people from diverse international and political backgrounds, is required of IPC paralegals. EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree. Preferable to have an interest in foreign affairs and international relations. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Strong reading comprehension skills, which include the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, documents containing legal terminology or governmental regulations. Ability to draft correspondence and reports as assigned, demonstrating excellent English language skills and attention to detail. Ability to convey complex topics in a simple fashion for case team, clients, and vendors. Strong writing skills are necessary--writing samples will be required for this position. Applicants with strong language skills are very welcome to apply. Key languages are Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, and French, though all languages are welcome and not a requirement. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common factors, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Basic knowledge of PC and Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint and Excel and other software programs designed for litigation support. AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Overtime Requirement Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as the Firm determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. Weekend and Holiday Requirement Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the Firm determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. Travel Requirement Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the Firm determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. Seniority level
