Postdoctoral Opportunity in Photosynthetic CO₂ Fixation — Carnegie Institution for Science (Stanford &Caltech Campuses) Location:
Burlacot Lab, Biosphere Sciences and Engineering Division, Carnegie Institution for Science Type:
Full-time | Fully Funded | Competitive Benefits The
Burlacot Lab
is seeking a
Postdoctoral Research Associate
to join our collaborative team studying how microalgae fix CO₂ and manage energy at the subcellular level — with the long-term vision of contributing to a more sustainable bioeconomy. You will lead research on how the
CO₂ concentrating mechanism (CCM)
is powered in space and time in the green alga
Chlamydomonas reinhardtii . Using high-resolution microscopy, subcellular sensors, and advanced biophysical tools, you will investigate
photosynthetic electron transport in spatial microdomains
and how these are harnessed to support efficient carbon fixation. This position involves
close collaborations
with Dr. Fay-Wei Li (Boyce Thompson Institute), Prof. Matthias Garten (Stanford University), and potentially researchers at Caltech — offering excellent opportunities for
joint mentorship
and
career development . What You’ll Do: Map and quantify localized photosynthetic electron flows in
Chlamydomonas Lead efforts in imaging and energy sensor-based assays Collaborate with partners to extend findings to terrestrial CCM systems Mentor junior trainees and support daily lab operations Publish your work in leading peer-reviewed journals A Ph.D. in Biology, Bioengineering, Biophysics, or a related field A strong publication record and demonstrated research independence Experience with cellular and subcellular processes Preferred: knowledge of photosynthetic biophysics, molecular biology, microfluidics, or algal systems We foster an inclusive and supportive research culture. All lab members receive
personalized mentorship
tailored to their career goals. To apply: Submit your
CV, cover letter , and
three references
via our official application portal: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Location:
