This position supervises Social Service Managers who oversee our three service areas: Bergen, Paterson, and Jersey City, New Jersey.
Position Summary
The Associate Director of Family Services supports the Department Director in training, implementing, and monitoring the Family Services Department. She has direct supervision of the Social Service Managers and the ERSEA Manager.
Learn and adhere to the philosophy and mandates of Head Start and Early Head Start as outlined in the Performance Standards, licensing requirements, and the Policies and Procedures of Greater Bergen Community Action. Assist the Head Start Leadership with planning and designing programs and systems to accommodate current needs and future expansion. Supervise the Social Service Managers in all three program areas. Supervise ERSEA Manager. Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with direct reports. Oversee the implementation of training of Family Support Specialists. Monitor file review process according to the monitoring framework. Complete file reviews as needed. Cover the role of the Social Service Manager in the absence of a manager. Conduct child Plus monitoring, internal reviews, and analyze trends for program improvement. Assists the Family Services Director in establishing and maintaining relationships with community agencies to ensure families have access to needed resources and services. Overseas ERSEA component. Reviews attendance reports and assists directors in developing programming for intervention with families of chronically absent children. Collaborates with the Family Services Director to develop a Strategic Recruitment Plan for each program Area. Actively participate in back-to-school events and parent meetings as required. Attend meetings as required by Head Start Leadership. Is punctual and adheres to the work schedule assigned. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, clients, representatives of community organizations, and other staff members. Is responsible for the overall safety of each child in the GBCA HS/EHS program. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work or related field Preferred: master’s degree in social work or related field with appropriate NJ license Communicates clearly and effectively. Bilingual ability is a plus Must demonstrate English proficiency - both oral and written Demonstrate good computer skills and accurately enter information into agency data management systems. Ability to physically care for the needs of the children in the classroom. This includes being able to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds. Valid NJ driver’s license preferred and use of own vehicle for self-transportation; local travel is required.
Knowledge Of
Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to preschools and childcare. Cultural and socio-economic issues relevant to providing appropriate services to special population groups. How student learning is influenced by individual experiences, talents, and prior learning, as well as language, culture, family, and community values. Characteristics, uses, advantages, and limitations of different types of assessments (criterion-references and norm-references instruments, traditional standardized and performance-based tests, observation systems, and assessments of student work) for evaluating how students learn, what they know and are able to do, and what kinds of experiences will support their further growth and development. Basic counseling theories and practices. Modern theories, principles, and practices of supervision, including training and staff development. Writing, filing, and maintaining concise and accurate reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
Ability To
Organize, set priorities, and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of assigned responsibility Interpret, apply, explain, and reach sound decisions in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures Exercise tact, objectivity, sensitivity, strategy, and judgment in dealing with volunteers, parents, and staff. Responsible for the overall safety of each child in the GBCA HS/EHS program.
Mandated Reporting
As per New Jersey mandated reporting guidelines, any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or acts of abuse should immediately report this information to the State Central Registry (SCR). If the child is in immediate danger, call 911 as well as 1-877 NJ ABUSE (1-877-652-2873).”
