Responsibilities: Conducting in-depth research using Chinese- and Malay-language sources Generating insights into Malaysia, China, and Southeast Asia Conducting analysis of historical, cultural, commercial, political, and military dynamics in the region Conducting analysis of key dynamics in different parts of Malaysia Conducting comparative analysis that considers dynamics within different ASEAN member nations Writing research reports on Southern China and Southeast Asia Operating in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment Required Background and Skills: Fluency in Mandarin Chinese Fluency in Malay Demonstrated interest in the history and cultures of East or Southeast Asia Experience conducting in-depth research with creativity and rigor Preferred Background and Skills: Experience in East or Southeast Asia Knowledge of any non-Mandarin Chinese languages (e.g. Hokkien, Teochew, Hakka, Hainanese, Cantonese, or Fuzhounese) Professional experience specialized in long-form writing or editing Experience with graphic design and publishing software Experience with ArcGIS or similar tools for geographic analysis and mapmaking Experience with data analysis tools Seniority level
