THE OPPORTUNITY

The

Director of Planned Giving (DPG)

leads the development and growth of the Foundation’s planned giving program, providing expert guidance to fundholders and professional advisors on charitable gift strategies—including bequests, retirement assets, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, and other legacy gifts. The ideal candidate is a skilled, mission-driven professional and a proven leader in the field. The

DPG

cultivates strong relationships with donors, advisors, and community partners, and works collaboratively to increase visibility and engagement around planned giving across the Foundation’s four-county service area (El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo). Reporting to the Senior Director of Philanthropy, this position is a key member of the Philanthropy & Communications team who helps donors make a lasting impact across our region.

SCHEDULE

Standard work schedule is 9/80, Monday through Friday, with every other Friday off A hybrid work schedule with 2/3 days per week in the office following an introductory period

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads the growth of the Foundation’s planned giving program by cultivating relationships with current and prospective legacy donors Builds and maintains strong professional advisor relationships throughout the region to encourage client referrals and the establishment of charitable funds Helps grow the Foundation’s assets per the strategic and business plans by securing planned gifts, with an emphasis on unrestricted support for regional needs Manages and supports the Foundation’s Philanthropic Advisors’ Forum (PAF), including quarterly PAF Advisory Committee meetings and advisor engagement strategies and events Collaborates with the Philanthropy & Communications team to create compelling content, collateral, and outreach strategies that engage advisors and drive referrals Partners with the Senior Director of Philanthropy and Chief Philanthropy Officer to steward legacy donors and prospects with high-quality, personalized engagement Serves as the Foundation’s expert on planned giving vehicles - including Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, and more Actively participates in key networks, including the Sacramento Estate Planning Council and the Planned Giving Forum of Greater Sacramento Maintains accurate records of legacy donors, prospects, and professional advisors in the Foundation’s database Produces monthly communications for professional advisors and contributes regularly to the Foundation’s blog content Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state charitable giving regulations Ensures all development activities align with the National Standards for Community Foundations and follow best practices Upholds and protects donor intent in all matters related to legacy gifts Meets monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics, including, but not limited to: Advisor calls, e-mails, and visits Fundholder calls, e-mails, and visits Prospect calls, e-mails, and visits Nonprofit CGA MOUs New Legacy promises Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the field Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and possesses the ability to master the Foundation’s donor management system (Community Suite), and/or the ability to learn other donor prospect/data content management systems Experience soliciting planned gifts and stewarding donors Experience working with professional advisors, preferred. Excellent written and verbal communications skills; bilingual fluency, a plus Community foundation experience, a plus Sales or development background, a plus High integrity, flexibility, and alignment with the Foundation’s mission and goals
