Job Summary (basic Description)
The Firm’s Practice and Innovation Department is seeking a Practice Support Attorney Director. This role will lead a team of Practice Support Attorneys (“PSA”) who support the needs of the firm’s practice and industry groups and firmwide legal projects. We are looking for a strong leader who can drive consistency and best practices across groups, promote collaboration, and drive innovation in the development of practice group content and resources and knowledge sharing across the firm.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Practice & Innovation and works in close collaboration with National Practice and Industry Heads and Practice and Industry Group Leaders. The Practice Support Attorney team is an integral part of the firm, though not in a traditional billing attorney role.
Essential Functions
Oversee the development of strategic goals, performance, and alignment of the PSA team by providing direction, mentorship, and oversight to the team to ensure high-quality partnership throughout the firm Partner with National Practice and Industry Heads, Practice Group Leaders, Industry Group Leaders, administrative leaders, and firm leadership to align PSA efforts with firmwide goals Support PSAs to best understand the goals and needs for assigned practice and industry groups and to establish and implement a plan to meet those objectives Foster a collaborative culture within the PSA team and with practice and industry groups Develop key performance indicators for PSA team, monitor and report on impact of PSA work for the firm and its clients to firm leadership Facilitate regular PSA team meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing forums Serve as a liaison between the PSA team and other departments (e.g., IT, Innovation, Marketing, Talent) to support broader firm initiatives Partner with the PSA team, practice innovation attorney and innovation team to set strategic plan to implement new technology for attorneys through practice groups Provide strategic insights and direction to practice and industry group initiatives and other special projects Ensure strong working relationships between PSA team and Practice Support Operations team Maintain a strong understanding of trends in legal practice support, content development, and knowledge strategy Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Skills Required
J.D. degree required Minimum of 8+ years’ experience practicing law and/or a legal practice support or knowledge function, preferably in employment law and/or litigation Minimum of 3+ years’ experience leading a team of attorneys with strong leadership and people management skills or leading large cross-departmental project implementations Excellent writing and communication skills Passion for knowledge-sharing, organizational skills, proficiency with technology and an aptitude for innovation, efficiency, and excellence in legal work
For Colorado and Illinois, the expected salary range for this position is between
$195,000 and $220,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
