Director of Sacred Music Location: St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garrett, Indiana Employment Type: Full-Time Salary: $40,000–$60,000 annually, commensurate with training and experience; benefits included Reports To: Pastor Overview: St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garrett, Indiana is seeking a faithful, skilled, and mission-driven Director of Sacred Music
to lead and enrich the liturgical life of our parish through sacred music. Rooted in the rich musical tradition of the Catholic Church, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a love for the Church’s sacred heritage, a pastoral heart, and the ability to foster participation and reverence at the liturgy. Primary Responsibilities:
Plan, coordinate, and execute music for parish liturgies, including:
Sunday Masses. (4:30pm Sat., 8:00am and 10:30am Sunday) Holy Days of Obligation Solemnities Weddings and Funerals School Masses Other major liturgical celebrations throughout the year
Recruit, direct, and rehearse and schedule the adult choir and cantors Establish and lead a school children's choir with regular rehearsals and performances throughout the school year Teach music one day per week at the parish grade school, integrating liturgical and musical education while meeting state and diocesan standards Collaborate closely with the pastor and parish staff to ensure liturgies reflect the dignity and beauty of the Roman Rite Ensure organ accompaniment at Mass and other liturgical events Other duties as assigned by Pastor Vision and Style:
Liturgies are celebrated in English with periodic use of Latin Mass parts Pew Missals and Digital Platform from Source and Summit Musical focus on chant (esp. from the Roman Missal) and traditional hymnody Organ is the preferred accompaniment Emphasis on fostering a prayerful, participatory, and reverent liturgical environment Qualifications:
Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic liturgy and sacred music Vocal skills to lead congregational singing Proficiency in organ performance, choral conducting, and vocal coaching Familiarity with Gregorian chant, traditional hymnody, and basic Latin pronunciation Ability to engage children musically in both educational and liturgical settings Degree in music or equivalent professional experience preferred Strong organizational and communication skills Compensation and Benefits:
