$240,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr About the California CASA Association The California Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association is dedicated to ensuring that children in California's foster care system have both a voice and the essential services they need for a stable future. The Association achieves this by advocating for impactful child-welfare policies and practices that improve the lives of children in foster care, and by strengthening the state’s robust network of 44 local CASA programs. The local programs recruit, train, supervise, and support community volunteers who serve as CASAs. These advocates address children's immediate needs and help create more compassionate and responsive systems for young people in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. While every child deserves to grow up with family care and protection, the trauma of foster care leaves many youth vulnerable. California CASA's goal is to rally around these children and families to change this story. California is home to the nation's largest population of children in foster care, with over 67,000 young people impacted annually. Given the disproportionate representation of children of color in this system, the Association is also a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its efforts. CA CASA’s network is diverse and geographically far-ranging, with budgets ranging from $150,000 to over $6 million. While services delivered locally vary, all adhere to the standards of CASA advocacy and look to the Association for leadership. With recent state funding, California CASA has launched campaigns to recruit new CASAs across all communities. This is an exciting time for California CASA. The organization is financially sound and administratively strong, with a current operating budget of $22 million and a $2.7 million reserve. Over the past three years, CA CASA benefited from a one-time state appropriation of $60 million, with 80% regranted to local CASA programs. This is complemented by private philanthropy, with every Board member making California CASA a philanthropic priority. The Association now plays a leading role in transforming the foster care narrative, providing local programs with vital training, counsel, and expertise. The Opportunity & Position Overview This is an extraordinary opportunity for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead California CASA into its next chapter. The new CEO will influence policymakers, secure diversified funding, and support a strong local network. The goal is to ensure that every child needing a CASA receives one. California CASA is actively working to secure permanent state funding for its local programs. CA CASA has built strong relationships with a lobbying association and has the ear of many state legislators. For a growth-minded leader, this is a chance to redefine the future for young people in foster care and juvenile justice, and to make California CASA’s network the strongest in the country. The table is set. The Association is seeking an ambitious, collaborative leader to build on momentum, apply fresh vision, and build a new legacy. The new CEO will be supported by a strong staff, including an exceptional C-suite, and report to a highly supportive Board of Directors. As the most visible representative of California CASA, the CEO will lead relationship-building across the network and with external partners, including child welfare groups and government officials. The CEO is also the chief spokesperson in public policy and advocacy. The role requires strong leadership, organizational management, and the ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies. Travel is required for board meetings and in-person engagement with local program staff, donors, and legislators.
