Join Verisk - Extreme Event Solutions’ growing Research and Modeling Department and be part of the Financial and Uncertainty Modeling team in Boston; working closely with statisticians, mathematicians, analysts and geoscientists. You have a strong desire to learn, as you will gain expert knowledge of a broad range of topics, including but not limited to; modeled perils and associated catastrophic events, postal codes in various countries around the world, insurance terms, and probability distributions. You have excellent communication skills and will use your technical and analytical skills to solve problems.

Responsibilities

About the Day-to-Day Responsibilities of the Role

Analyze insurance claims data from catastrophic events such as hurricanes, earthquakes, flood, and severe thunderstorms

Test accuracy of new methodologies by writing code in R or C++ and run simulations

Document results

Present findings concisely and create clear visualizations

Assist the client services team in explaining methodology and answering client questions

Qualifications

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

Graduate degree in a quantitative field, such as data science, statistics, mathematics, or computer science, with 2-3 years of professional experience with data analytics projects is required

Strong analytical and quantitative skills, a solid understanding of probability concepts, and excellent problem-solving skills

Background in data science/machine learning highly desired

Experience with any of the following would be a big plus: insurance claim data, insurance policy conditions, actuarial science, database management

Basic programming knowledge required; familiarity with R or similar statistical language is preferred. Knowledge of SQL is a plus

Excellent oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are required

Ability to work independently or with a team
