The Special Projects Engineer is expected to work on unique or complex engineering projects that require specialized knowledge and skills, as assigned by the Director of Engineering. Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner. Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Fairmont Standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel. Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including adhering to the proper dress code and wearing a name tag while working. Comply at all times with Fairmont standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations. Make repairs to air conditioners – change filters, clean coils, replace blower motors, etc. Successfully complete projects as assigned by management, including but not limited to: collecting readings and water samples, testing tower water and recording data, performing furniture repairs, responding to room maintenance calls, performing plumbing repairs (e.g., unclogging drains, changing washers, stems, seats, cartridges, handles, drain fittings), replacing lavatories and toilets, repairing and finishing sheetrock, and repairing kitchen equipment. Qualifications
Trade school or college coursework in a related field is helpful. At least one year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field is required. High school diploma preferred. Previous supervisory responsibility is preferred. Long hours may be required. Very heavy work — exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds frequently, and/or 10 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Ability to convey information and ideas clearly. Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately. Ability to work well under stress and high-pressure situations. Effective problem-solving skills, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving workplace problems. Training in a trade such as carpentry, HVAC, etc., is helpful. Good plumbing skills are required. Tools and equipment include hand and power tools, electrical test equipment, refrigeration and plumbing equipment, welding and pipe cutting equipment, telephone, office equipment, calculator, and computerized monitoring systems.
