Our low-cost liquid-phase nano-coating addresses critical electrode-surface degradation issues and enables batteries with a Silicon-dominant anode that have higher energy density, superior intrinsic thermal safety, and significantly lower cost/kWh compared to current LIBs. Our Si anode material is 50% the cost of graphite and 100% domestically sourced. We strive to transform the global automotive market by enabling low-cost and long-range EVs as a first step towards net-zero sustainability. Position: Our R&D labs and pilot line are the heartbeat of our next generation battery technology.We need a hands on, solutions oriented engineer who can keep that heartbeat strong by anticipating problems before they occur, driving a rigorous safety culture, and making sure every tool, sensor, and fume hood is always ready for prime time. This is a solo role where you will be expected to perform most of the tasks independently. Core Responsibilities : Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance strategies and policies for critical laboratory infrastructure including reactors, DHUs, vacuum systems, and environmental chambers Exercise discretion in determining maintenance priorities, vendor selection, and resource allocation to achieve >95% equipment uptime targets Design and oversee implementation of spare parts optimization strategies based on risk assessment and business impact analysis Direct the development and implementation of chemical inventory management systems and hazardous waste compliance programs Make independent decisions on waste disposal strategies, and regulatory compliance approaches Serve as management's representative for regulatory inspections and audits, with authority to implement corrective actions Oversee strategic planning for laboratory facilities, making recommendations on capital improvements and infrastructure investments Negotiate and manage relationships with landlords, contractors, and service providers, with authority to approve expenditures within defined budgets Develop long-term facilities optimization strategies aligned with organizational growth objectives Serve as the senior technical advisor to executive leadership on laboratory capabilities and limitations Develop and present monthly executive reports on operational KPIs, making strategic recommendations for continuous improvement Required Experience and Skills: AS or BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent military/industry training. 3 to 7+years maintaining complex R&D or pilot ‑ scale equipment in battery, semiconductor, pharma, chemical or other high ‑ hazard environments Strong diagnostic chops spanning a wide variety of tools, from electrical faults to leaky Swagelok fittings. Working knowledge of vacuum science, pneumatics, hydraulics, HVAC, and basic PLC/HMI interfaces. Comfortable reading P&IDs, electrical one ‑ lines, and OEM manuals Demonstrated ownership of chemical hygiene plans, LOTO programs, and incident ‑ free audits. Familiar with NFPA, NEC, EPA, Cal/OSHA (or equivalent) requirements Clear communicator who can brief team leads at a 30,000feet level and technicians at wrench ‑ level detail. Self ‑ starter who spots clutter, risk, or downtime coming and eliminates it without being asked. Resilient, curious, and unflappable when the urgency strikes. Bonus: Ability to fabricate quick one ‑ off fixtures (basic TIG, CNC, or 3 ‑ D printing) Benefits & Location: San Leandro, CA. Full-time.
