Kivo-inc
Location: Portland, OR (in-office two days a week)
Kivo is a modern cloud-based platform that helps life sciences teams manage regulated content across clinical, quality, and regulatory workflows. We’re powering the next generation of biotech with a product that’s intuitive, compliant, and ready to scale.
We’re looking for a
Principal Software Engineer
to help define architecture, own entire areas of feature development, and drive complex technical initiatives across the stack. You’ll join a small but high-leverage engineering team with a strong culture of quality, testing, and pragmatism.
This is a senior IC role. We need someone who can ship, guide, and collaborate at scale — across codebases, stakeholders, and product areas.
Lead the design and evolution of Kivo’s cloud-native architecture
Write production-grade code in TypeScript (Node.js and React)
Drive the execution of critical projects — infrastructure improvements, new platform capabilities, performance optimizations, etc.
Set the bar for quality through code reviews, testing, and mentorship
Collaborate closely with Product, QA, and Validation teams to ensure releases are correct, compliant, and complete
Help shape and refine our SDLC, tooling, and technical standards
Triage technical debt and continuously improve system resilience, observability, and test coverage
Require 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years at a staff or principal level
Expertise in our stack: TypeScript, React, Postgres, API-first design
Experience building and scaling cloud-native, multi-tenant SaaS platforms
Additional qualifications include:
Strong understanding of SDLC best practices: CI/CD, code review, test automation, and release validation
Comfortable navigating a regulated environment (validation, traceability, change control, etc.) or eager to learn
Pragmatic about process, but obsessive about product quality
Capable of mentoring other engineers (including quality and support) and leading without hierarchy
Experience with SOC2, 21 CFR Part 11, or similar frameworks
Prior work on platforms for document management, collaboration, or life sciences
Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code, DevOps tooling, or systems observability
Build software that matters — our platform helps life sciences companies bring therapies to market
Remote-first company with flexible hours
Strong product-market fit and rapidly growing customer base
Competitive compensation + equity
Transparent leadership and a supportive, fast-moving culture
