Job Overview
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer. This role requires some who is enthusiastic about educating and assisting our members with our services. You will be an empowering mentor that will be responsible for a broad range of accounting and finance duties. The VP of Accounting and Finance directs and controls the credit union’s overall financial plans and policies, and accounting practices. Counsels management on fiscal control and profitability and prepares budget reports. Key activities include supervising, directing, coordinating, maintaining, and controlling an accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the Credit Union. Responsible for supervising and directing Credit Union accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and fixed asset. Responsible for safeguarding the Credit Union’s assets. Administers the Credit Union's fiscal record keeping. Ensures the accurate internal and external recording and reporting of financial transactions. Prepares and reviews reports for Senior Management, the board of directors, external users, and government agencies. Oversees general ledger, accounts payable, fixed asset, accounts receivable, branch statistical reporting, ATM balancing and accounting information systems. Responsible for ensuring completion of all Fedline functions. Writes and updates Fedline procedures. Monitors department policies and procedures and recommends improvements. Serves as a resource in all aspects of accounting. Ensures accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and Credit Union procedures. Assigns, directs, and appraises accounting staff. Ensures the Accounting Department supports the overall goals of the Credit Union and Accounting services are delivered professionally and efficiently. Prepares periodic reports, reviews and reconciles data, and participates in the development of specialized financial data. Oversees and prepares entries and adjustments to Credit Union records, files, and statements. Conducts financial analyses and contributes to the credit union's overall financial strategy.

Education - Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Graduate degree and CPA or CMA license strongly preferred. Minimum 7 years of experience in accounting, forecasting, and financial analysis in a financial environment. Credit Union experience preferred. 5 years of management experience overseeing accounting and finance professionals. Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Thorough knowledge of Credit Union and industry accounting practices and procedures. Thorough knowledge of governmental regulations and reporting requirements. Knowledge of related auditing functions. Proficient in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Understanding of Credit Union operations and information needs. Strong leadership skills. Strong communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities Strategic thinking and decision-making capabilities
Role Description And Essential Duties
Develops short and long-run goals and objectives for the Accounting and Finance area. Develops and implements operational plans, policies, and procedures for the Accounting Department which further Credit Union objectives. Continually evaluates established policies and procedures and updates or modifies them as necessary. Ensures that policies are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, accounting principles, and industry trends. Directs the development and implementation of financial information and control systems, including general ledger, Fedline, and other subsystems. Periodically reviews management’s information needs and modifies the reporting systems as needed. Oversees development and preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statements and reports. Ensures that accounts and reports provide responsibility centers with adequate operating and financial data. Ensures that records and reports are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and government regulations. Ensures that external document submissions and filings are accurate and timely. Assists in the audits of financial records and statements. Conducts in-depth financial analysis and provide expert financial advicPerforms and oversees special studies for management, such as cost analyses, ratio and trend analyses, and other comparative examinations. Detects and analyzes trends in financial data. Prepares reports and analyses of departmental and branch operations and performance. Maintains financial data in budget forecasting software Research monthly budget variances and provide variance explanations for the balance sheet and income statement Conducts quarterly department budget meetings with senior management Provide data extract files to the third-party ALM provider for quarterly IRR and NII reporting. Produce various performance monitoring and portfolio concentration reporting for Asset/Liability Management (ALM) Committee meetings Assist with the preparation of the annual budget forecast Perform various “What-If” analysis for senior/executive management Aids and advises branch and department managers in handling accounting entries and reports and various comparative analyses. Provides leadership to Department personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducts regular staff meetings. Selects and trains personnel. Analyzes training needs and develops programs to meet them. Conducts performance appraisals as required. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed. Directs, schedules, and coordinates Department functions. Ensures that the quality and integrity of accounting services are maintained. Serves as liaison between the Credit Union and external auditors and regulatory authorities. Represents the Credit Union with various trade professionals and groups. Ensures that the Credit Union’s professional reputation is maintained. Ensures that appropriate levels of confidentiality are maintained. Stays abreast of industry and business issues, understands and applies this knowledge in current activities. Completes special accounting projects as assigned. Ensures that Department work area is clean, secure, and well maintained. Complies with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) rules and regulations, in addition to Customer Identification Program (CIP). Attends required annual BSA training and required compliance training. Assist with all other duties as assigned or identified.
