The Engineering Director will be responsible for the overall planning, directing, and coordinating of product engineering functions in a multi-plant company, producing a wide variety of electrical transformers for industrial, telecommunications, and utility markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, direct and coordinate through subordinate manager(s) and Senior Design Engineer(s) the design, development and test of product. Respond to customers’ inquiries and orders, development of engineering specifications, standards and applicable bills-of-material for each sales order. Plan and organize the work of approximately 6 individuals. Define authority, delegate responsibility and provide for the training and development of Engineering, Test Laboratory. Provide thrust, direction, and control necessary to position the Company as a leader in engineering innovation, quality and reliability in the domestic and international industrial and telecommunication/utility markets. Collaborate with other staff members to implement plans and programs of the Company. Participate actively by direct communication with customers in promoting sales, customer satisfaction and market penetration. Establish engineering project and order processing controls to ensure that work is completed with schedules and expense budget guidelines. Prepare and administer a department operating expense budget. Evaluate all product line costs from standpoint of Sales, Marketing and Manufacturing. Make recommendations for product improvement and innovation and implement upon approval. Provide for an atmosphere of continuous cost reduction through product design standardization, improved efficiency and performance capability. Collaborate with Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering to improve manufacturing methods and reduce associated costs. Provide support for Sales quotations and order design review. Motivate an atmosphere of quality assurance and participation. Provide technical guidance for updating testing laboratory instrumentation, product design verification, transformer performance capabilities and appropriate research and development for product development programs. Ensure that designs and performance characteristics meet or exceed sales and marketing demands. Remain abreast of engineering developments at the marketplace. Expand the use of computer-aided design programs. Participate in Executive Staff meetings to provide support to the VP, General Manager in the development of Company plans, policies, procedures and objectives. Appraise the performance of subordinates and conduct merit reviews. Review and approve of employee performance appraisals, promotions, merit increases, transfers, terminations and other personnel-related matters through employee involvement techniques. Provide for good working relationships with major customers, vendors and service personnel through personal visits and phone communications. Travel as needed to Mexico, China, and to visit customers and/or suppliers. Perform various other related duties involving product engineering or otherwise associated with overall responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Physics (equivalent to four years of college education). Experience & Expertise: 8-10 years in product engineering, with hands-on experience in magnetic components, transformer design, and related electromagnetic and heat transfer technologies. Strong leadership skills with experience managing engineering teams and driving project success from start to finish. Key Skills: Deep technical knowledge in magnetic component design, dielectric materials, transformer manufacturing, and thermal dynamics. A proven ability to manage capital expenditures and make critical decisions on product design, ensuring alignment with customer needs and profitability objectives. Leadership & Strategy: Ability to guide and mentor a team, setting clear goals and fostering a culture of engineering innovation. Contribute to shaping company policies and strategies, positioning the company as a leader in engineering innovation and reliability.
