About The Role
We are seeking a highly entrepreneurial and data-driven Senior Manager - Ocean Freight Procurement to be a pivotal force in shaping the future of global ocean transportation within our rapidly growing organization. This critical role demands a strategic leader who will not only drive our ocean freight procurement and pricing strategy but also spearhead the development of scalable, technology-enabled processes. By collaborating closely with our Sales, Operations, and Product Management teams, you will be instrumental in optimizing costs, securing capacity, and ensuring service reliability to fuel our growth and customer acquisition efforts.
What The Candidate Will Do
As the Procurement Senior Manager - Ocean Freight, you will be at the forefront of defining and executing our comprehensive procurement strategy. Your core responsibilities will include:
Procurement Strategy & Carrier Relations: Develop and implement a robust ocean freight procurement strategy, meticulously identifying key carrier partners and articulating a compelling value proposition that fosters mutually beneficial relationships. Cultivate and strengthen relationships with key ocean carriers at local, regional, and executive levels to secure best-in-class pricing, reliable capacity, and superior service. Explore and develop strategic agent partnerships within our network to assess and leverage supplementary ocean capacity. Conduct continuous market analysis and develop comprehensive market intelligence to anticipate trends, identify opportunities, and mitigate risks in the global ocean freight landscape (e.g., TPEB, TAWB). Procurement Technology & Innovation: Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to define and prioritize the procurement technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives. Translate complex business needs into clear product requirements, user stories, and feature sets for technology development. Prepare compelling business cases and secure funding for the development of innovative procurement technologies and tools. Evaluate third-party software solutions to conduct thorough buy-vs-build analyses, recommending optimal technology investments. Procurement Operations & Performance: Oversee and manage procurement cost inputs from ocean carriers, co-loaders, and agents on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Lead complex negotiations for ocean freight contracts, co-loading agreements, and agent contracts to achieve optimal terms and conditions. Proactively manage and mitigate risks associated with Minimum Quantity Commitments (MQCs) and other contractual obligations. Establish and track key operating metrics to measure and enhance procurement cost competitiveness, efficiency, and performance. Partner seamlessly with pricing teams to ensure accurate and timely cost inputs are provided for effective pricing strategies.

Likely 1 domestic trip monthly and 1 international trip biannually
Basic Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent At least 2 years people management experience 10+ years of progressive experience in ocean freight procurement, gained within an NVOCC, ocean carrier, or a leading global freight forwarder. Demonstrated highly analytical mindset with intermediate proficiency in Excel. Deep and comprehensive understanding of freight costing methodologies and the intricacies of the global ocean freight market, including key trade lanes (e.g., Trans-Pacific Eastbound, Trans-Atlantic Westbound). Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence and build consensus across diverse teams and external partners. A strategic thinker with the ability to balance immediate tactical responsibilities with the simultaneous execution of long-term strategic initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
An advanced degree (e.g., MBA, Master's in Supply Chain) Proficient in CargoWise Proficient using Tableau

US based employees may also be eligible for a performance or sales incentive bonus program, participation in Uber Freight equity awards, and other types of compensation depending upon the role.
California: The salary range for this role is $116,640 to $167,880 a year. Illinois: The salary range for this role is $97,200 to $139,900 a year.
