Overview
We are conducting an executive search for a
Vice President of Economic Development
on behalf of a prominent not-for-profit organization committed to regional prosperity through strategic economic development and inclusive growth. The organization plays a central role in building a stronger business climate through public-private collaboration, innovation, and international engagement. The Vice President will lead efforts to attract, retain, and grow companies across key sectors, while expanding external relationships that strengthen the region’s business ecosystem. This individual will lead a high-performing team focused on industry development, global outreach, and stakeholder alignment. The ideal candidate brings proven leadership, a deep understanding of economic dynamics, and a strong commitment to measurable impact. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Team Oversight Develop and implement strategies to support business growth across sectors such as aerospace, manufacturing, clean energy, logistics, and technology. Lead and mentor a cross-functional team to meet external engagement and investment goals. Establish trusted relationships with industry executives, civic leaders, and ecosystem stakeholders. Program Development & Business Engagement Develop and execute lead generation plans, including market research, targeted outreach, and business development campaigns. Supporting active projects by connecting companies with partners, capital, talent, and innovation resources Representing the region at industry trade shows, site visits, and outbound missions Engage international companies and delegations exploring investment or expansion opportunities. Stakeholder & Partner Collaboration Collaborate with local, state, and regional economic development entities to align strategies. Build relationships with utilities, academic institutions, and global partners to strengthen regional positioning. Participate in industry councils, consular briefings, and forums to amplify visibility and foster connections. Metrics, Reporting & Impact Define and report on KPIs that reflect program reach, business attraction outcomes, and stakeholder engagement. Deliver presentations and updates to board members, investors, and community leaders. Maintain a strategic calendar of events and engagements across partner organizations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Public Administration, Business, or a related field (Master’s preferred) 7–10 years of experience in economic development, business engagement, or related leadership roles Familiarity with workforce development, industry engagement, and international business trends Demonstrated success managing teams, partnerships, and complex cross-sector initiatives. Understanding of chamber operations and the role of business in community development Experience managing cross-functional teams and complex, multi-stakeholder projects Knowledge of international markets and industry dynamics across target sectors Excellent communication, public speaking, and stakeholder engagement abilities Advanced verbal and written presentation skills tailored to executive and community audiences. Strategic thinker with strong planning and implementation skills High emotional intelligence and the ability to lead collaboratively. Collaborative leadership style with a focus on accountability and shared success Highly organized, results-driven, and skilled in managing multiple priorities.
