Position Overview: Systems Administrator – Global Lab Solutions (GLS)

Cognizant is seeking a

Systems Administrator

to support Linux, Windows, and Virtual environments in advanced engineering labs.

This is an onsite role in San Jose, California . The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in systems administration, networking, and virtualization, with an innovative mindset and problem-solving passion. The role involves collaborating in a dynamic, Agile team to maintain safe, compliant lab environments aligned with company standards.

Core Responsibilities

Manage UCS C-series rack servers and UCS Blade Centers, configure and troubleshoot Linux, Windows, and Virtual environments.

Configure, administer, and maintain virtual systems including VMware vCenter, ESX servers, and OpenNebula environments.

Support networking troubleshooting and configuration, including setup of networking equipment.

Manage infrastructure: install and configure OS and hardware, administer UCS servers, oversee storage solutions, and monitor system health.

Collaborate with security teams to address vulnerabilities, apply patches, and ensure secure lab operations.

Develop and maintain documentation for work, best practices, and troubleshooting.

Monitor system resources and health to mitigate emergencies.

Maintain lab safety, tidiness, and compliance standards.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows OS.

Knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP, Cisco switches, IOS, NXOS, and industry cable standards.

Experience with VMware vSphere and OpenNebula virtualization.

Knowledge of Cisco UCS hardware, RAID, NetApp storage (preferred), and scripting (Python, Perl, Bash).

Soft Skills

Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Team-oriented, adaptable, detail-focused, and proactive.

Responsive in ticket management and lab user requests.

Minimum Qualifications

Advanced Linux and Windows OS knowledge.

Expertise in VMware and networking, including Cisco IOS and IPv4/IPv6.

Experience managing large-scale environments and familiarity with LAMP stacks.

Preferred Qualifications

Cisco Nexus and UCS experience, certifications (MS/RH/VMware), NetApp knowledge.

Scripting skills, 7+ years in high-tech engineering environments.

Work Activities

Collaborate daily on work activities, troubleshoot data center issues, and document processes.

Ensure safety, compliance, and organization in lab environments.

Applications accepted until 8/13/2025. Salary ranges from $79,000 to $92,500, depending on experience.
