Contractor, Data Architecture Audit & Improvement Consultant

Becker’s Healthcare is a fast-moving multimedia and events company delivering business news, audience intelligence, and live events for healthcare leaders. As we prepare for our next growth phase, we’re seeking an experienced data strategist to audit our current systems and guide an architecture rebuild or optimization plan. Responsibilities Conduct a comprehensive audit of our data architecture, including data sources, pipelines, storage systems, and governance practices Create a prioritized improvement roadmap to address gaps, improve scalability, and prepare systems for analytics growth Deliver clear documentation and architecture diagrams Validate data lineage, quality, security, and compliance Recommend enhancements to our data platform environment, including warehouse design, cloud migration, and integration options Guide and support the execution of the improvement plan, working with internal teams or external vendors as needed Identify and recommend key data engineering solutions, frameworks, and workflows to improve scalability, automation, and data quality across systems Collaborate with internal technical and data teams to align deliverables with business needs Qualifications 7+ years as a Data Architect, consultant, or senior technical advisor, preferably in media, events, B2B marketing, or membership-based environments Proven experience auditing legacy data infrastructures and designing scalable, future-ready solutions Expertise in SQL, Python or R, ETL tooling, and cloud platforms such as Snowflake, Azure, Redshift, or Databricks Strong understanding of data governance, security controls, and privacy compliance Familiarity with modern data engineering practices including pipeline orchestration, data validation frameworks, and scalable architecture design Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate findings into an actionable roadmap for leadership Self-driven and detail-oriented with the ability to manage a scoped project independently Duration: Approximately 2-3 months Compensation: Competitive hourly consulting rate based on experience with range: $125 - $170 / per hour Why This Role Matters This is a high-impact, short-term consulting engagement that will shape the foundation of our long-term data strategy.
