Position Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring ACP’s financial integrity and operational excellence. By managing accurate and timely financial processes, this position supports ACP’s mission to advance the clean energy transition with transparency and accountability.

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant oversees critical accounting functions such as revenue processing, financial reporting, and compliance. This role collaborates closely with internal teams—including Membership and Conferences—as well as external partners to ensure smooth financial operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of balancing day-to-day financial management with continuous process improvement in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

Manage the full accounts receivable cycle, including invoice accuracy, reconciliation, and timely collections. Ensure revenue recognition and deferred revenue are recorded accurately in compliance with GAAP and ASC 606. Lead monthly close activities, including AR aging, general ledger reconciliations, and suspense account review. Prepare audit-ready documentation, including PBC lists, reconciliations, and revenue schedules; respond to auditor inquiries as needed. Oversee cash management, including deposits, transaction recording, and bank reconciliations. Coordinate with Membership, Conference, and other internal teams to align financial processes and resolve discrepancies. Monitor receivable transactions for accuracy and proper reporting; process customer refunds and resolve payment issues promptly. Support financial system improvements, including the transition from Protech to Salesforce Nimble and implementation of integrated workflows. Assist with grant and fund tracking for 501(c)(3) entities and ensure compliance with related financial reporting requirements. Perform shared services between entities – 501(c)3, 501(c)6 and PAC and reconcile intercompany transactions. Maintain adherence to internal controls and ACP’s accounting policies; coordinating with tax consultant to ensure proper filing and identify opportunities for process efficiency. Deliver responsive and professional support to internal stakeholders and external partners.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required. A CPA or CPA designation desired. 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience with a focus on accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and financial operations. Nonprofit experience strongly preferred, including work with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) organizations. Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards. Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct and Workday Adaptive Planning (or similar ERP and planning tools). Familiarity with CRM systems such as Protech and Salesforce Nimble. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications. High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Effective communicator with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance colleagues. Collaborative team player with a customer service orientation and problem-solving mindset.

Job Conditions

We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high-level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines. Occasional travel outside of the Washington, DC area for meetings or events may be required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. ACP will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

We reasonably believe that the base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 annually. At ACP, a wide range of factors are considered when making compensation decisions including and not limited to skill set, experience, training, education, knowledge, and other business and organizational needs.
