Position Summary: As a senior member of the Legal Affairs Team reporting to the NAR General Counsel, Senior Vice President, this position will guide NAR through complex legal challenges, ensuring we uphold the highest standards of legal and ethical conduct while minimizing risk across our operations. The position will be responsible for managing NAR’s organizational litigation portfolio as well as its risk mitigation efforts. The position will engage with outside counsel and joint defendants to ensure NAR’s litigation strategy is achieved. Additionally, the position is responsible for staying abreast of industry developments and trends in legal risk impacting NAR as well as REALTOR members, brokerages, licensees, and consumers. Duties and Responsibilities: Lead development and execution of NAR’s litigation strategies in collaboration with internal teams and outside counsel Provide legal counsel on antitrust, employment, corporate governance, contract and tax-exempt matters Advise General Counsel and other senior staff on legal risks and develop proactive measure to mitigate those risks Represent NAR in meetings, negotiations and strategic discussion regarding legal matters Supervise and support legal staff in their daily responsibilities and professional development Other duties, as assigned Qualifications: 7+ years of experience as in-house counsel or practicing at a law firm representing trade associations, businesses and/or corporations Proven experience with complex civil and general litigation Deep knowledge of antitrust, corporate governance, employment, contract and tax-exempt law Knowledge of REALTOR associations and the real estate industry is a plus Demonstrated management experience with the ability to lead and inspire a team Excellent verbal and written communication skills tailored to diverse audiences Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with senior leadership Proven ability to handle confidential matters with discretion Comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment requiring thoughtful and timely decision-making JD degree from an accredited law school Licensed to practice law in the United States with preference to DC (able to waive into DC) or IL Member of the state bar in good standing Compensation: $260,000-$285,000 NAR provides comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance Organizational Overview: The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) is a team of professionals dedicated to providing world-class service to approximately 1.5 million REALTORS working in the United States and around the world.
