The Chief Mission Advancement Officer (CMAO) serves as a key strategic leader at the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, overseeing the organization's social impact, philanthropy, community partnerships, and mission advancement initiatives. This role combines the functions of fundraising, strategic partnership development, advocacy, and community engagement to strengthen the Y's position as a mission-driven, equity-centered nonprofit. Position Summary

The Chief Mission Advancement Officer (CMAO) serves as a key strategic leader at the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, overseeing the organization's social impact, philanthropy, community partnerships, and mission advancement initiatives. This role combines the functions of fundraising, strategic partnership development, advocacy, and community engagement to strengthen the Y's position as a mission-driven, equity-centered nonprofit.

The CMAO provides strategic oversight and operational leadership for the YMCA's Mission Advancement and Social Impact Departments, which includes initiatives in fundraising, philanthropy, board engagement, civic engagement, volunteerism, community organizing, data & evaluation, and social impact programs. In addition, the CMAO leads high-level efforts to grow contributed revenue through corporate, government, and individual partnerships.

This leader will model the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion across all aspects of the organization's mission advancement work.

Core Responsibilities

Mission Advancement & Social Impact Leadership

Lead the strategy, integration, and execution of the YMCA's social impact portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs. Guide initiatives in equity, justice, immigrant integration, youth civic leadership, mental health advocacy, and community well-being. Build strong partnerships with government, nonprofit, and community-based organizations to elevate civic engagement and social policy impact. Represent the YMCA in advocacy settings, including city, county, state, and federal spaces that align with the Y's mission and strategic plan. Oversee staff, programming, and outcomes for the Department, fostering innovation and community-led design.

Fundraising & Revenue Generation

Develop, implement, and responsible for developing strategies to achieve $15–20M in annual revenue, and $5–7M in government contracts or grants. Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of high-level donors, corporate partners, and public sector funders. Lead capital campaigns, corporate sponsorship initiatives, and planned giving efforts. Oversee and strengthen fundraising and data-base systems. Drive mission-driven fundraising through storytelling, social return on investment data, and community voice.

Partnership Development

Build long-term strategic partnerships with municipalities, school districts, businesses, foundations, and health systems that align with the Y's vision. Establish, grow, and steward relationships that support co-created solutions to social and community challenges. Lead efforts to secure contracts and MOUs that amplify YMCA programs and services in priority communities.

Team Leadership & Culture

Direct and mentor a cross-functional team of development professionals, program managers, and social impact leaders. Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and data-informed culture grounded in continuous improvement and community accountability. Work with Executive Directors, Board of Directors members, Center Board Members, and community leaders to build mission-aligned capacity at the Center level.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. 7+ years in a senior leadership role in fundraising, community development, advocacy, or social impact. Demonstrated success cultivating six- and seven-figure gifts and public-private partnerships. Deep understanding of issues impacting Los Angeles communities. Experience managing government grants and philanthropic portfolios. This position requires the final candidate to successfully pass an E-Verify check. Working Conditions

Must be able to travel throughout Los Angeles County. Evening and weekend work required, particularly for events and advocacy forums. Hybrid remote/onsite work as aligned with team needs and organizational policies.
