Job Type Full-timeDescriptionPosition Summary:Layout, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements.Essential Job Functions:1. Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid over heating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of material.2. Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.3. Check grooves, angles or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers and precision measuring instruments.4. Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.5. Layout, position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers.6. Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting.7. Analyze engineering blueprints, specifications and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly and welding operations.8. Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry and welding techniques.9. Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease or other foreign material.10. Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods and flux according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.11. Remove rough spots from work pieces using portable grinders, hand files, scrapers or dual action sanders.12. Guide and direct flames or electrodes on or across work pieces to straighten, bend, melt or build up metal.13. Clean or degrease parts using wire brushes, portable grinders or chemical baths.14. Cut, Contour and bevel metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders and templates using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knives.15. Hammer out bulges or bends in metal work pieces16. Mix and apply protective coatings to products17. Timesaving parts and assembly as neededRequirementsQualifications:1. Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.2. Experience: 1 - 3 years3. Computer/Software and Office Equipment Skills: Experience using a computer for punching in and out of jobs preferred but not requiredKnowledge and Skill Requirements:a. Must place a strong emphasis on quality and attention to detail.b. Able to read and understand work orders.c. Able to identify problems during the manufacturing process and make necessary adjustments to correct.d. Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision following detailed manufacturing instructions.e. Ability to work with hand toolsf. Able to work in a team environment.g. Able to effectively provide and accept feedback from colleges based on work reviews.h. Flexibility to work overtime to ensure smooth and continuous manufacturing process.Essential Physical/ Mental Requirements:1. Work requires occasional bending, lifting, and reaching.2. Work is performed in an environment with noise.3. Need to occasionally move and carry loads of up to 50 lbs.4. Must have good time management skills.5. Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift6. Must have the ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy while working in an environment with interruptions and occasional noise.
