Cost Estimator
GENERAL SUMMARY Completion of customer request for quotes accurately and on time. Identify any GD&T of feasibility concerns and present to estimating manager for approval. Unfold customer supplied CAD data, produce a blank layout and identify the process. Data is to be entered into quote model along with estimated tool and gauge cost. Send tooling RFQ's to vendors as applicable and follow up as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS A. Read, analyze, interpret, and understand engineering documents and blueprints in order to complete an accurate quotation. B. Accurate completion of quotations, as required in a logical time sensitive manner. C. Work with outside Tool shops to gather quotes for cost, timing and feasibility based on process quoted. D. Work with suppliers for outside processing costs. E. Align with Product/ Process Engineering, Sales- BDM's and AM's, as well as plant personnel for quote preparation. F. Review all print info for manufacturing feasibility and mark drawing accordingly. G. Responsible for all CAD activity ie. Blank layouts, Overlays, as it relates to the quote. H. Creation of part prints as applicable, including GD&T and datums. I. Participation in and support the Lean Manufacturing Process. J. Able to multi-task. K. Willing to work extra hours as required to ensure customer needs are met. L. Additional duties as required by the Quoting Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Education: • Mechanical Engineering (Degree, Technologist or Technician) or C of Q Tool and Die • Solidworks, Unigraphics NX, or other 3D cad software • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
Experience : • 2-3 years Metal stamping, Welding and manufacturing experience. • Blueprint reading including GD&T • Proficient with Solidworks, Unigraphics NX or other 3D cad software. • Understanding of metal stamping dies and part processing.
Personal/Technical Skills: • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of automotive plants and processes/principles, company products, trade terminology, metal materials, stamping/welding/assembly manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment system and processes, die design and maintenance, and machine operation. • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand engineering documents and blueprints such as 2D/3D automotive drawings (component, assembly, and equipment), technical standards. • Possess a basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) • General understanding and working knowledge of basic engineering principles. • College level mathematical ability (algebra/geometry/trigonometry). • Sufficient mechanical aptitude a plus. • Strong negotiation skills. • Excellent analytical skills. • Excellent time management skills. • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. • Ability to work with a dynamic and demanding team. • Strong multitasking, organization, and planning skills. • Ability to compile effective and concise visual reports and graphs. • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of the organization. • Ability to be adaptable and flexible in a constantly changing environment. • Ability to work with Suppliers, Customers and Associates to achieve required results. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to support demanding automotive customer requirements. • Ability to be a problem solver who defines problems, makes decisions based on data, establishes facts and draws valid conclusions, and assesses current status while making management aware of any issues that might affect project timing, feasibility or cost.
