The psychiatric technician reports to the department manager and provides routine direct services and care to clients of the crisis departments. They serve as an advocate and role model for all crisis service clients; supervises activities and upholds client rights including confidentiality. Documents observations and results of all interventions. The individual works in collaboration with departmental staff and other department area staff to provide a full array of behavioral health support. Characteristic Duties

Assists with client registration, per program guidelines. Assisting with answering phones and directing calls to appropriate areas. This may include appropriately handling crisis calls according to program and hospital guidelines. Performs intakes, belongings inventory and patient location assessments, including specific and timely documentation in the electronic health record. Interacts with clients, family members, support staff and co-providers to ensure a smooth work flow. Assists clients with getting to laboratory, financial aid services, or other areas as needed, following unit policies. Works directly with clients to ensure a safe, supportive environment. Role models appropriate social behavior while providing supportive and therapeutic atmosphere for clients. Investigates and responds promptly to questions or concerns from clients. Works collaboratively with supervisory staff to ensure program services meet regulatory expectations. Maintains current documentation of all services provided including medication observation and storage in accordance with departmental and hospital standards. Completes incident reports in accordance with established procedures. Informs the appropriate individuals and/or supervisor of any client issues. Ensures that the facility and clients remain clean and safe during all scheduled work shifts. Intervene when clients demonstrate potential or actual harmful behavior using least restrictive methods. Be able to provide verbal de-escalation and/or physical behavior management techniques as trained through BMC. Attends and/or completes all required meetings and trainings within required time frames including regular departmental staff meetings. Performance Standards

Monitors client satisfaction and looks for opportunity for personal improvement as well as opportunities for treatment team to improve performance. Demonstrates ability to support clients in an effective and positive manner. Meets all mandatory training and education within defined time frames. Ensures program area is kept clean and organized, and ensures client meals and snacks are provided at appropriate times. Ensures all daily staff tasks and activities are completed during work shifts. Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to changes in workload, schedule, department function and procedures. Participates actively in creating a positive and harmonious work environment by demonstrating team work and cooperative, responsive behaviors. Works collaboratively with the client and other behavioral health staff to formulate goals for treatment and effectively engages in discharge planning. Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills. Demonstrates service excellence in all activities and interactions. Ability to provide back-up to other community crisis department positions as needed. Works collaboratively with clients and other staff in formulating goals for treatment. Clients are able to remain outside of hospital inpatient services. Completes all documentation within required standards. Attendance pattern meets BMC standards. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. 1+ year working with individuals with chronic mental illness. Ability to work cooperatively with the multi-disciplinary team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to verbally and physically de-escalate a client utilizing BMC trained programs Ability to complete electronic charting and documentation Ability to work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team. Ability to consistently meet departmental work schedule as designated. Ability to effectively speak, read, and write English. Ability to successfully complete and pass CPR and BMC designated behavior management training during the orientation period and maintains all certifications throughout employment. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the treatment of chemically dependent persons. Coursework in Human Services field. Bi-lingual. Experience in community mental health or residential program setting. Meditech experience Bi-lingual.
