As a Mechanic of the Cog Railway Team, this position is responsible for working under the supervision of a mechanical foreman to repair railcars and shop machinery throughout the entire year. During the seasonal operating schedule, a mechanic may operate (drive) diesel powered railcars or locomotives over the railway.

What you will be doing:
Repairs mechanical equipment (railcars, locomotives, industrial equipment and cars); makes repairs to hydraulic, mechanical and air operated systems and components; overhauls air compressors, diesel engines and mechanical brakes, and miscellaneous mechanical devices and components. Operates diesel railcars, locomotives and company owned highway vehicles in a professional and safe manner. Performs routine maintenance, servicing and cleaning of rail cars, locomotives and company buildings and repair shop areas. Wears standard Cog Railway uniform in a neat manner when operating trains; maintains a courteous, Willingness to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Uphold and abide by all Broadmoor policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Other duties as assigned. What we are looking for:
Possess basic mechanical ability and aptitude to repair mechanical, hydraulic and air operated equipment and devices. Knowledge of English and metric units of measure and mechanical fasteners (bolts, nuts, screws); be familiar with and able to safely use basic hand tools (wrenches, etc.) and power tools. Ability to analyze and trouble shoot malfunctioning mechanical equipment in the shop and when operating railcars or locomotives on the road. Must also have knowledge of computers and use of diagnostic software Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor when working with railway customer. Possess the aptitude to learn how to safely and correctly operate diesel powered railcars and locomotives. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Ability to pass a post offer, pre-employment drug screening and will be subject to random drug screening Valid U.S. Driver's License required Any employee driving a Broadmoor vehicle must be 18 years or older Must be able to work weekends, holidays and varying shifts. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is normally in a locomotive maintenance facility. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee may work around electricity with risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet, snow and ice conditions. The employee will regularly be at altitudes between 6,500 feet and 14,115 feet above sea level. At these altitudes the employee may experience decreased oxygen levels, extreme cold, extreme heat and rapid changes in weather conditions without warning.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee will work in train maintenance shop areas where eye and/or hearing protection may be required. Employee may work in close proximity to diesel engines and train horns.
Work schedule is non-standard. Weekends and holidays required, some night and early morning work may be required. Work load is seasonable with peak work coming in the summer between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
