They assist in the clinical evaluation and care of patients. The technologist utilizes their specific modality to create diagnostic images and provide patients with a safe, positive experience. In radiation-producing modalities, technologists practice and enforce radiation safety measures in accordance with state regulations. The technologist prepares and administers dosages of radiopharmaceuticals and contrast media. They also prepare and position patients for scanning and operate nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment. The technologist is responsible for radiation safety and quality control procedures. They handle the disposal of radioactive materials and monitor work areas and patient rooms to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Technologists support teaching and continue learning as technology evolves for themselves and others. No weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts are required.
